Beyond The Four Walls: Outdoor Sessions
While most therapy sessions take place in a room, it isn’t the only way to do the work. Some can find being outdoors makes it easier to talk, think and process difficult feelings; others feel a deep connection with Nature and would like to work more closely within that connection. I offer two ways to take our sessions outside.
Walk & Talk Therapy
Some people can find the face-to-face setup of the traditional chairs in a room too intense. Side-by-side “Walk & Talk” sessions offer a different energy. Walking around can help take the pressure off and feel like a more natural way to open up about personal matters.
It’s worth noting that walking sessions aren’t for everyone or every situation. Because we are in public spaces, I can’t guarantee the same level of total privacy you’d get in a closed room. We also have to consider issues like the weather and if movement might actually be a distraction from the specific areas we need to focus on. We can talk through how this fits your needs during our first meeting.
Eco-Psychotherapy (Specialist Sessions)
This is different from a standard walk and talk. In these sessions, we aren’t just passing through the scenery; we actively engage with the environment around us. Guided by the principles of eco-psychotherapy: bush, wind, and trees – Nature becomes a co-therapist. These sessions are about deepening your connection to the Earth and if you’ve always felt at home in Nature or you feel a strong pull to be outdoors, this can be a very powerful way to work.
Because these specialist sessions involve engaging more deeply with the environment, they require a different pace and more time than a standard indoor session. Eco-Psychotherapy sessions run for 90 minutes and the fee is adjusted to reflect the extended time, travel to location and nature of the work. Please contact me for further information.
